My Thanksgiving Trip To Lancaster, PA

On the road again... this time to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, home of the Pennsylvania Dutch. Went to visit with a long-time friend Drew Anthon, owner of Eden Resort in Lancaster. Quite a wonderful, upscale resort, right in the middle of Amish territory. Enjoyed a tremendous, unbelievable, wide assortment of foods for brunch on Sunday. The place was packed, and usually is on Sunday. The Eden Resort boasts a wide variety of spacious suites for families and groups, along with meeting and banquet facilities.

It has been well over 10 years since I've been to this beautiful landscape of farms, country homes, inns, and horse & buggies... Really most interesting.

Then there was a visit to the famous Plain & Fancy Visitors Center where we had a mini bus tour of the countryside to see the landscape and farms with cattle grazing and young men in their open courting buggies. This was followed by a personal tour of one of the homestead places. Walking through these country farm homes surely reminded me of my early days being brought up in Brooklyn... kinda like the same thing (oh yeah!).

It wasn't enough visiting Pennsylvania Dutch country, but of course, we had to visit Hershey Land. This was a good half day experiencing the history of Mr. Hershey and how chocolate started to be made in this country. We saw the movie, toured the factory, and even did a very special chocolate tasting session, to learn how different chocolates taste. We tasted five different types of chocolate from the familiar milk chocolate up to the very hard, dark type of (healthy) chocolate. And, of course, got samples to take with me on the road back to Blacksburg, Virginia, area of my homestead.  Sure got a good sleep that night.
