Howard,
You did so much for me and for my career I can’t begin to ever thank you! I was able to learn and take away so much from your classes and being around you! I miss being able to swing by your office and have a chat!
I don’t think that I will ever be able to forget all of the amazing skills and lessons that you and the entire faculty provided me with!
Again words cannot begin to thank you for all of the valuable life lessons you have taught me!
Sincerely,
Jonathan

You were my favorite instructor at VT because you spoke so naturally from the heart about sales in the hospitality industry and I would love to expose that style and your knowledge to our folks in DC.
Sarah

I was in your Sales and Tourism management class last year, and till this day I continue to learn from you and your actions (this thank you message), and think of you as a great role model.
Best,
Wayne

Dear Howard,
It was those early lessons in your classes that truly made a difference for me over the years. Thank you for all the lessons that stuck with me and I hope that you will be proud of your student. I am still learning at 47!

Hello Mr. Feiertag,
I would like to say what a great article written on the negotiating process in the Hotel Management magazine! I am fairly new to this industry (two years) and would appreciate any other advice or tips you can throw at me.
Thank you so much,

Stay well my friend, always good to stay in touch with a fellow hotelier and someone I respect as a hotelier, who has been dedicated to the hospitality for his entire career. Retirement is not in the cards, your hospitality students need you as teacher and mentor, to grow their careers, and always know, that Howard Feiertag was there to make it all happen! All the best - John

Morning Howard,
Well, I am honored to have been blessed by your friendship over the years. Needless to say, my Salesmanship is attributable to you and your guidance.
Sometimes we don’t realize who we touch and how much our thoughts and words mean, but trust me, you have had a tremendous impact on my career, and the career of many many many other hoteliers! And I will always be grateful.
I hold you in high esteem for anyone who worked with me in Sales. Your messages were clear and concise, and you shared basic principles that every Sales person needed to know.
Be well my friend,
Ray

I came across these gems (two books of articles, plus the audio cassette series and brochure from some of the many Regional Training Workshops Howard did when I was the co-owner of HSA International in the 1990's) as happy reminders of how much Howard Feiertag has meant to my career. He generously advised me when I was a young guy starting my first training company in 1989, and continues to do so today. He still mentors countless others as a professor of hospitality at Virginia Tech. How many of you have been - like me - mentored by Howard to this very day?
Doug

Howard,
I want to thank you for the time that you have invested in me this semester in your Hospitality Sales class. I have learned so much from your stories and look forward to incorporating that knowledge into my future career. The stories you have told and the experiences you have had have made a huge impact on my career in hospitality. I am looking forward to taking more classes with you and receiving more mentorship from you in the future!
Thank you for everything!
Karly

For Howard,
From the first moment I met Howard I knew my life would be changed forever. As a perspective Hospitality and Tourism Management student I understood the significance of befriending this remarkable man. Please understand that my endearing words are my heartfelt attempt to describe one the most colorful people I have had the pleasure of crossing paths with. The picture of Howard, suit and tie, still standing tall and proudly optimistic even in old age is forever etched in my mind. The man has an addictive presence. Between his award recipient smile and wonderfully engaging stories I always find myself wishing that life would hold still and that those moments with Howard would never end. If the world was comprised of more people with the sort of character and passion that is unique to him there is no question in my mind that humanity has a bright future ahead. For his age Howard is still, even now, ahead of his time; Using tools such as LinkedIn to stay in touch with past students like myself (The day I received my LinkedIn message from Howard was truly a wake-up call!). And even though he is hard-of-hearing Howard still is one of the best listeners I have had the honor of confiding in. So thank you Howard for being yourself and blessing the world with your kindness.
Sincerely,
Alex

Thank you very much Mr. Feiertag,
I must say that since I discovered your article yesterday I have read several of your other articles and I find them all to be very informative.  I am in the process of taking a lead role in group sales (corporate and leisure) for our mid scale property and can use all the insight and knowledge I can get my hands on!  Thank you so much for being a valuable source and for all the work that you have obviously put forth in making all this information available.  It is gratefully appreciated!
Warmest Regards,
Maria

Congratulations Howard!!
You are a true inspiration!! I am honored to have met you last year at the sales blitz in Orlando. I use what I learned during our short time together in my daily activities in hotel sales and in my personal life. The difference that it has made to me personally is indescribable. You are one of a kind!!  I look forward to seeing you again soon!
Thank You!!
Waverli

Hello Howard!
I was a student in your Meetings and Conventions Management class. You have been my most memorable and favorite professor throughout my entire time at Virginia Tech! I wanted to reconnect with you and let you know how much of an impact you made on my experience at Virginia Tech, and how much I truly enjoyed having you as my professor.
I have many fond memories of your class, and want you to know that you made such an impact on my college career.  You always started off class with such high spirits, playing music, and getting the students excited to learn about hospitality.  I always looked forward to entering your classroom and shouting "HELLO HOWARD!"  Your teaching style and your energy really made me eager to continue into the Hospitality industry, and I want to thank you for the great experience I had in your classroom.
I have high hopes for myself in the hospitality industry, and I know you are definitely a person I want to thank for that!
Sincerely,
Kristen

I will never forget one of my favorite professors! Your Hospitality Sales class left a lasting impression on me and inspired me to pursue hospitality as a career. I will always be grateful to you.
Sara

Hello Howard!
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for doing such a great job preparing me for my summer internship this year through your sales class. I have to admit, while taking the course I had my doubts about whether or not sales was the path I wanted to take in the Hospitality industry. It was something I had never really considered. However, this summer I am interning at a hotel and conference center in my hometown in their sales and catering department. I cannot tell you how impressed they were to find out I am certified in Delphi! The training I received in your class is priceless now that I am using it on a daily basis. My bosses are so impressed with the sales knowledge I am already in possession of and I owe it all to taking your class. Thank you again for all of your help.
Sincerely,
Haleigh

Good Morning Howard,
I read your article in Hotel Management, and was very impressed with the initiative of “Stepping Up” our associates to be sales force.
I have done this exact practice for a number of years, and the hotel I am currently employed with has exceeded budget for 5 of the 6 years we have been open. (the excluded year 2009 - I attribute to the economy downturn & could not be helped much).
Thank you for such an outstanding representation of the fact that ALL ASSOCIATES are sales persons. From front desk to housekeeping. BRAVO.
Thank you!
Karen

Howard,
Thanks for the great article you wrote about “Stepping up when Sales People have left the building.” We always try to encourage our associates to be an extension of the sales office.  We have a couple of general inquiry forms as well based on the type of business it might be.  I would love to see what you have as I always try to enhance and update our tools for our team.  Thanks again for the great message and I enjoy your work.
Sincerely,
Mike

Today is the birthday of one of the most wonderful people on earth… certainly in the meetings/hospitality industry. I met Howard Feiertag in '81 when he taught an MPI Institutes Class. He taught me negotiation skills… and more, humanity in our industry. If you've never met or been taught by Howard, you have missed an experience that would influence you all the days of your life. Oh Howard, I am so happy to wish you a good and healthy day, and an EVEN longer life of learning and giving back, of laughter, of the richness of friends.
Howard, you… at 85 have more energy and wisdom than anyone! You continue to be a role model for me in so many ways and I am grateful forever that we are friends.
Keep at it, please.
Joanie

Hellooo Howard!
I just wanted to let you know I was offered the position of Sales Coordinator at a new Resort and Spa. I can't believe the opportunity that I am getting and it is all thanks to you for giving me the confidence to go for what I wanted! You really were the greatest influence and one of my most favorite professors in all of college. I wanted to thank you so much for everything!
Sara

Hello Howard, I just wanted to let you know that I got accepted into the HTM program. Thanks again for everything you have done and being the inspiration for me wanted to pursue the HTM major!
Doug

Howard,
I took away a lot of valuable lessons in ways to show the value of products as well as yourself, human nature, and how to be successful in the business world. I want to thank you for a great semester in which I was able to learn so much. I thoroughly enjoyed your class (never missed a day). Once again thanks for such a great semester, I'm so lucky to have had you as a professor. I always looked forward to coming to class and really learned a lot. I do sincerely appreciate everything I've learned from you!
Best,
Paige

Howard,
First off I wanted to thank you for an amazing semester. I truly believe that the projects and assignments we completed this semester helped me get my sales job. I owe a lot of the knowledge that I presented in my interviews to this class and I thank you for that.
Kind Regards,
Brandon

Thanks Howard. In short, you might not remember me... yet, I remember you as I have been part of many of your lectures, seminars, and workshops over the years. Howard... YOU made a difference in my life, career, and path and I just wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you. ~ I am only teaching YOUR words!!!

Hi Mr. Feiertag,
About 20 years ago I attended one of your classes in Orlando when I switched from restaurants to hotels. This is my 40th year in the industry and the last 20 in hotels. I have been a Director of Sales and Marketing now for various hotels.
I want to thank you for the class I attended. You turned my focus from operations to Sales and I have had much success since then. Your class was greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I shared this story with some of my co-workers and many knew who you were so they were somewhat impressed… As I was when I took it. Thank you for being a part of my success. You have touched many lives in your years.
I hope one day to run into you. Bless life.
Rick

Thank you, Howard.  I hope you are doing well!
I left Blacksburg in 2002 and I can still remember how incredible of a teacher you are.  I think it is great that you regularly share career opportunities and HTM updates.  It means a lot.
My best to you,
Chris

Howard,
I’ve been reading about your sales advice since I began my hotel career two decades ago. I really enjoyed your recent article ”Making the Most from Tradeshows” in Hotel Management.
I would be most grateful if you could please send me a free copy of Trade Show Tips that I can share with my sales team.
Thank you and hope you have a fantastic week!!!
Sincerely,
Doug

Dear Professor Feiertag,
I am currently enrolled in the course HTM 1414. Yesterday you were one of the presentations about studying abroad and student organizations. I am currently in University Studies but I am applying to Hospitality and Tourism Management under Pamplin in December. Your energy, excitement, and accomplishments have given me even more faith in knowing Hospitality and Tourism Management is the place for me. I have always wanted to study abroad but do not want to for a whole semester; once I learned about this Cruise Management opportunity, I wanted to take it!
Thank You

Howard I am a big fan of yours. You have been so instrumental in teaching and grooming the next generation of hospitality professionals and for that, you will always hold a special place in my heart. I took one of your courses many, many years ago when I was a young salesperson. Your insight and passion for our industry is amazing.
Thanks again...and I hope we have a chance to connect again in person soon!
All my best for now,
Katie

Have always enjoyed your hundreds of articles over the years in many different publications. Nice you continue to share your wealth of information particularly in the sales area. I often wish I would have spent more time in that segment early in my career.
Best regards,
Gary

It is really nice of you to help others to perform better. I am genuinely thankful to you. This will help me to train my team. I am a general manager of a Resort called Best Western Premier Vedic Village Spa Resort, Kolkata, India. We have 250 rooms, a World class Spa, Night Club, Huge activity Zone and a Convention Centre (covered area 70000 sq. ft.) with a 18 hole world class Golf Course coming up within 1 year - work in full progress.
Looking forward to know more and more from you.
Thank you once again.

Don’t even think about retirement, we need you out there with the vast amount of knowledge and expertise that you have to share, that helps our industry build effective and consistent programs to insure that Sales and Marketing, is the key to hospitality success throughout the world.

Thank you so much Howard! I really appreciate your assistance with this and everything you have done so far. Congratulations on being such a wonderful professor that everyone lands jobs so soon after graduation… actually before graduating!!! That speaks volumes about you!! I hope you have a wonderful day!
Martha

Howard,
I have to tell you a little story.  My first hotel job was in 1984 at the Sheraton in Hampton, VA.  Although, I had a sales background, I knew nothing about hotel sales.  I was hired as the DOS.  I learned so much from your articles and credit them with getting me through my first year in hotel sales.  Since that time, I’ve been a Regional Director of Global Sales with IHG; General Manager with a Marriott; Director of Sales Training for Holiday Inn Worldwide; Regional Marketing Manager and Sales Trainer with ITT Sheraton (way before Starwood) and I’ve owned and operated my own sales training and coaching business.
Thank you for all you do!!!
Ellen

Hello Mr. Feiertag,
I have been an avid reader of your articles in the Hotel Management Magazine.  As a General Manager and a Management Company, I have always learned a lot from your articles over many years.  I have always made it a practice to train my own DOS and Sales Managers.  I have also sent a few sales staff members to attend your classes.
Please allow me to also express that you have been my Sales Guru over the years.
Thank You.
Hafeez

Good morning Mr. Feiertag,
I am a Hospitality Veteran of the industry for 20 years.  I have been reading your Sales Article’s in the Hotel Management Magazine for many years and each time I have read your articles I either pickup a new idea or am reminded of something I had forgotten.  I really appreciate the time you have taken to write us “Professional Sales People” motivational articles in our industry. Thank you!

Good Morning Howard!
Many years ago I took a 3 day workshop with you at Virginia Tech and really benefited greatly from it.  Do you still offer these workshops for sales professionals?
Thank you!

Dear Howard,
I came across your article online regarding hotel sales.  I found your tips online very helpful and engaging.
Angela

Dear Howard,
For years I look forward to your wisdom and insight via articles in relationship to hospitality sales - common sense etc.  Great job- Once again I find myself requesting a sample phone lead questionnaire -  Please forward at your convenience
Also - thank you for all you have contributed to the industry over the years!
Michael

Hello Howard,
I was hoping it isn’t too late to receive a copy of your “Characteristics of Successful Sales People,”. I was very intrigued with your article that goes in depth on how hotel sales agents need to be not just good, but great. Our owner gave us  a copy and I would love to read more and become a great sales agent. If you have any other readings that you could refer me to, I would be very interested. Thank you for your time and have a great day.
Thanks again,
Taylor

Dear Mr. Feiertag,
I read your recent article in HM magazine and loved. It. I was hoping I can receive a copy of “Characteristics of Successful Sales People”. Articles like yours really help me to fully understand my role as a Catering Manager, and that it runs deeper than only making the sale.  Thanks again.
Kind Regards,
Jonathan

Professor,
I just wanted to thank you for the kind e-mail you sent to my son yesterday. He’s a great kid and he was VERY excited to receive it. I have always told him that one of the keys to life is to find a career that you love – if you do, you’ll never work another day in your life.
I think he is one of the lucky ones who has found his calling, but we shall see. I think he is also one of the lucky ones to have you as one of his professors. It’s nice to know that VT has such dedicated and enthusiastic teachers.
Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Chris

Hi Howard,
Just read your article on the importance of the telephone, and had to drop you a note. I absolutely loved it, and it was great to learn that I am not alone in realizing the importance of appropriate phone etiquette during the sales process.
It has become commonplace that I share your column with my sales team, and this month was no exception. Keep up the good work!
M

Hello Howard!
I just wanted to thank you for a great semester. I feel like I learned a lot this past semester, and you have great insight in the hospitality field. I'm glad I got to take the class. I watched your speech online when you accepted your award in NYC last year. I really liked the story you told about the starfish - good stuff!
Have a great summer and God Bless!
-Nolan

I read your article "Hotel sales people need to be not just good, but great" and I was highly inspired and motivated by your advice and suggestions.
